YouTube Restricting AI-Generated Content

YouTube is now restricting AI-generated content. Creators on YouTube will soon be required to mention the type of content they post. The platform said in a blog post that it will be releasing a number of modifications over the coming few months, including forcing creators to identify whether their content is AI-generated when uploading it, which will result in a label warning the viewer.

On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, Jennifer Flannery O’Connor and Emily Moxley, Vice Presidents of Product Management at YouTube, published on YouTube’s Official Blog. This blog represents new regulations for AI content creators. The blog states that “Generative AI has the potential to unlock creativity on YouTube and transform the experience for viewers and creators on our platform. But just as important, these opportunities must be balanced with our responsibility to protect the YouTube community.” It is also said that they know the risks of AI, too.

Is AI dangerous? Here’s a video for you:

With the coming presidential elections in America, DeepFakes are possible on the video uploading platform. “This is especially important in cases where the content discusses sensitive topics, such as elections, ongoing conflicts, public health crises, or public officials.” Said Jennifer Flannery O’Connor and Emily Moxley.

Creators who fail to do so consistently may suffer consequences such as content removal or suspension from the YouTube Partner Program. According to the release, artists and producers can request the removal of content (including music) through copyright strikes.

When a creator submits a video to YouTube, they can declare whether it “contains realistic, altered or synthetic material,” according to the blog post. “For example, this could be an AI-generated video that realistically depicts an event that never happened or content showing someone saying or doing something they didn’t do. “The description panel will include labels warning viewers when a video contains AI-generated or edited content.

To sensitive content, a “more prominent label” will be appended. Even if AI-generated content is adequately tagged, it will be removed if it violates YouTube’s community guidelines.

YouTube also addresses the ongoing trend of AI-generated song covers in different music artists’ voices like you can find American artists’ AI covers of K-pop songs all over the internet. So, YouTube says that “We’re also introducing the ability for our music partners to request the removal of AI-generated music content that mimics an artist’s unique singing or rapping voice. In determining whether to grant a removal request, we’ll consider whether the content is the subject of news reporting, analysis, or critique of the synthetic vocals.”

However, what to do with false requests on content removal and youtubers’ safety? This issue is also elaborated by YouTube. “Not all content will be removed from YouTube, and we’ll consider a variety of factors when evaluating these requests,” according to the blog post. “This could include whether the content is parody or satire, whether the person making the request can be uniquely identified, or whether it features a public official or well-known individual, in which case there may be a higher bar.”

The statement is YouTube’s latest attempt to tackle misinformation and DeepFake films that have been uploaded to the network, as well as to address the expanding popularity and application of artificial intelligence. AI technologies have grown in popularity in recent years, but 2023 has seen a significant growth in their broad use. How is all of this content moderation going to be enforced? Of course, AI. In addition to creating convincingly real-looking false material, generative AI can identify and capture content that breaches content regulations. YouTube will use generative AI to contextualize better and understand threats at scale.
