A government work report states that China will continue its efforts to attain technological self-sufficiency while formulating development strategies for emerging industries, such as quantum computation.
According to the report, to achieve significant strategic and industrial growth goals, it plans to create an AI-plus initiative, increase its efforts in big data and AI, and launch some large science and technology programs.
“We will fully leverage the strengths of the new system for mobilizing resources nationwide to raise China’s capacity for innovation across the board.” According to the report.
Trade conflicts with the US have limited China’s ability to import chips and other components, so Beijing has recently made being technologically self-sufficient a top priority.
The government has been placing a greater emphasis on its role in allocating resources to accomplish its stated objective of enhancing national security and financial stability through promoting local innovative capabilities and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers.
As part of a larger government reorganization, the current Communist party has been given greater authority to make policies concerning technology since last year. According to the report, the nation will strengthen its methods for finding and fostering top-tier innovators and foster more first-class researchers and innovation teams.
