Tech Giants Unite in Consortium to Tackle AI Workforce Impact 

Put on a safety belt if you belong to the technology industry. Because the journey ahead will be difficult.  The World Economic Forum (WEF) projects that, partially due to artificial intelligence (AI), about a fourth of occupations worldwide will shift during the next five years. Even more optimistically, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects that sixty percent of modern economic employment will include tech. 

 Although they may not seem like much in theory, the tech corporations are aware that this amounts to hundreds of millions of impacted lives.  

 The AI-Enabled Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Workforce collaboration is a new partnership that nine of the largest tech corporations in the world have formed to address the influence artificial intelligence (AI) will have on the tech workforce. The alliance goes live today.  

 The collaboration is advocating skilling and development possibilities to make sure people are capable of adapting to maintain a position ahead of the quickly expanding and fast-changing artificial intelligence revolution under the direction of Cisco and with participation from Accenture, Eightfold, Google, IBM, Indeed, Intel, Microsoft, and SAP.  

 Over the next ten years, several firms will be committed to educating over 95 million people in competencies, including AI-specific offers from IBM and Intel. However, as Cisco’s Corporate Individuals, Regulation, and Vision Officer Francine Katsoudas acknowledges, learners may need help choosing from many options. It helped businesses realize that they cannot effectively address artificial intelligence’s effects on the workforce in proportion.  

According to Katsoudas, what makes this time unique is how AI genuinely comes from a technological standpoint, as she told Fortune. She continued, ” And we are all realizing that should we not advance a little more quickly, there could be a danger for people who are possibly detached and individuals who have been affected by the technological gap. 

Six advisors make up the association, including Khan Academy, the Congress of Industrial Organizations, and the American Federation of Labor (CIO-AFL). 

Disruption on all fronts—from software developers to truck drivers 

 The United States EU Trade and Technology Council Talent for Growth Task Force, in which Cisco chief executive officer Chuck Robbins participated, organized discussions that served as the basis for the consortium’s founding.  

 United States Minister of Commerce Gina Raimondo stated to Fortune that the consortium will solely support her division’s efforts to increase the number of profitable employment opportunities.  

 I appreciate the consortium members’ participation in their attempt to address the emerging labor demands of artificial intelligence explosive growth. This effort will contribute to the unmatched understanding of the particular skill requirements for these career paths. Raimondo expresses optimism that the business sector will view it as an invitation to take action to ensure that our workforces can benefit from artificial intelligence (AI) and that this collaboration is the start of something bigger.

 Based on Fortune 500 facts, the nine consortium corporations have over 1.75 million employees and approximately $805 billion in revenue annually.  

 According to Hannah Calhoon, the director of innovation in AI at Indeed, organizations are currently trying to figure out the best way to use this exciting new technology. Furthermore, it will probably have a unique effect on the daily jobs of those in the technological sector.  

 To give corporate executives and employees practical training insights, the consortium’s first round of study will assess how artificial intelligence (AI) affects numerous technology-related employment roles in the workplace.

 We understand that we must provide our people with opportunities. Katsoudas told Fortune that the more frequently we can genuinely employ AI in this way, the more it will significantly affect career paths. 

According to Indeed, nearly one in five jobs (19.8%) are believed to be significantly familiar with generative artificial intelligence, which means the technology is considered excellent or exceptional at carrying out at least 80% of the duties required for that position.  

 Through direct collaboration with businesses, Indeed intends to gain insight into the kinds of opportunities employers are looking to fill and the talents that will be in demand in the future. According to Calhoon, this will enable them to assist in matching applicants with suitable positions.  

 She also says that more people anticipate that changes resulting from artificial intelligence will occur in white-collar industries.  

 According to Calhoon, all jobs, from software engineers to truck drivers, will experience some upheaval.  

Future possibilities with upskilling 

 According to the World Economic Forum, over fifty-eight percent of workers think that there will be a substantial change in the skills needed for their jobs during the next five years.  

 Although there are numerous routes for upskilling with artificial intelligence, according to Calhoon, a wide range of courses now concentrate on general subjects such as artificial intelligence or massive language models. Alternatively, more functionally focused classes focusing more on real-world applications, like artificial intelligence for marketing or healthcare providers, would be beneficial.  

 Instead, most of us will be considering how to efficiently use AI technologies that some individual else has produced in our daily work. Says Calhoon.  

 Teams working in the digital industry will need to learn and upskill to remain forward of the arc continuously, and leading organizations will encourage this, according to Katsoudas.
