AI Powered Samsung Galaxy S24 Is Launching on Jan. 17

The Galaxy S24 lineup is expected to be the star of the show at Samsung’s next Unpacked event. Samsung has formally announced its winter Unpacked — coming right on the heels of CES and just down the street from some of its biggest competitors’ HQs. Samsung S24 is launching its next crop of mobile devices — presumably the rumored Galaxy S24 series — on Jan. 17, the company said Tuesday. In what will be one of the first major smartphone launches of 2024, Samsung’s devices are expected to include new AI-powered features among other routine camera and processor upgrades.

Samsung typically focuses on camera improvements to set its new phones apart from previous models. But this year, AI is expected to play a big role in the Galaxy S24 series. The devices will likely be the first new phones to include Galaxy AI, which the company described as a “comprehensive mobile AI experience” when it teased the feature in November. Otherwise, rumors and leaks suggest that a new titanium build and a design with flatter edges could be in store for the top-of-the-line Ultra model.

Specs-wise, the S24 and S24+ will have Exynos 2400 chipset, with the S24 Ultra coming with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. Reports suggested all three phones will get the Qualcomm chipset in the US and Canada, and we’ll know for sure in two weeks. Based on supposed leaks and Samsung’s Galaxy AI announcement from November, it sounds like the Galaxy S24 series will further signal that smartphones are moving in an AI-centric direction. The phones leaked pretty much in full, but the most intriguing part is they are not getting more expensive. On the contrary, the S24 and S24+ will be cheaper in Europe, and this change is likely to reflect the cost in the United States as well.

The Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra will keep the overall design and footprint as their predecessors. The biggest change the company will introduce is the new One UI 6.1, infused with Samsung’s generative AI that will bring better night mode photos, live translation during calls, and some software and hardware optimizations.
The company says we’ll see the “newest additions to the Galaxy mobile device portfolio,” which is all but guaranteed to be the S24 series. AI will be a major focus — no surprise there. Rumors have also pointed to the S24 Ultra getting a new titanium build — that should ring a bell if you’ve seen any advertisement for the iPhone 15 Pro — and the 3D metallic graphic in the event invitation certainly seems to lean that way. Hosting the event in Apple’s backyard is probably no coincidence either.
