The late actress Marilyn Monroe may now be contacted through a “hyper-real” artificial intelligence (AI) digital avatar. The project’s creators claim that the avatar can respond to queries “in Marilyn’s signature voice and style,” even though Monroe passed away 62 years ago. Soul Machines, an artificial intelligence technology company, introduced Digital Marilyn, an interactive experience where Marilyn “shares anecdotes and even delivers personalized greetings, creating an unforgettable experience for Marilyn fans.”
Digital Marilyn, created by Soul Machines utilizing artificial intelligence, allows users to engage “in real-time using advanced natural language processing, deep learning and GPT 3.5,” according to Friday’s announcement.
According to Soul Machine, Digital Marilyn can detect and react to users’ emotions using its unique camera and microphone technologies. “Each conversation is special in its way. Digital Marilyn learns your tastes and responds appropriately, creating an authentic relationship that speaks to you personally,” claims Soul Machines, whose digital avatars typically have 20-minute conversations.
The business claims that Digital Marilyn can “engage in natural, fluid dialogue, adapting to your questions and interests in real-time… thanks to her AI capabilities.” Thanks to this technology that mimics the human nervous system, Digital Marilyn may react with lifelike expressions and emotions, making for an incredibly unforgettable and intimate experience.
Several other generative AI projects incorporating deceased celebrities have also emerged, the most recent of them being the Digital Marilyn project. The animation biopic of French singer Edith Piaf will utilize AI to produce a voice and visual imitation of Piaf, and the Calm app has Jimmy Stewart delivering a bedtime story with an AI-generated voice.
At a private event on March 8 at SXSW in Austin, Soul Machines unveiled Digital Marilyn. The project’s stated goal is to showcase “the transformative power of AI in connecting brands and consumers,” according to Soul Machines’ CEO and co-founder Greg Cross.

Authentic Brand Groups, which oversees the rights to the late actor’s image and likeness, is a collaborator in the production of the Marilyn Monroe generative AI chatbot.
