The newest Galaxy phones, tablets, and foldables will soon have One UI 6.1. To operate Samsung’s most recent AI features, you currently require a Galaxy S24 phone. But the situation is going to change next month. As part of the One UI 6.1 upgrade, Samsung will bring Galaxy AI capabilities to the S23 series in late March, including the S23 FE and more recent foldable smartphones and tablets. For now, everything is free, but you may be required to pay after 2025.
The update will be available for the Samsung Galaxy S9 Tab, S9 Plus, S9 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Z Flip 5. That’s a good start if Samsung intends to deliver Galaxy artificial intelligence to one hundred million smartphones this year, as it claims. The much-discussed artificial intelligence (AI) features available on the S24 series—such as generative picture and video editing, Google’s Circle to Search function, and live translation—will be included in the One UI 6.1 upgrade. Similar to the S24 series, this feature set combines both on- and off-device processing.
Undoubtedly, learning new tricks on a previous-generation phone is beneficial, even though Galaxy AI is now a bit of a mixed blessing. Overall, these features are harmless most of the time if they go sideways and do come in help sometimes. A few helpful non-artificial intelligence updates, like lock screen icons and the recently introduced unified Quick Share, will also be included in One UI 6.1.
You can permanently turn off AI-based features if you want to update to One UI 6.1 without using them. It is a straightforward technique to ensure you never run into anything like Pillow Arm.
