Google and Reddit partnership for AI Training Data

Reddit’s data will be made available to Google in real-time, and Reddit’s search function will leverage Google AI, thanks to an allegedly $60 million yearly arrangement.

Reddit provides AI training data to Google as part of their recent collaboration. In a Thursday post, Reddit said it will begin offering Google “more effective methods to train models.”

Google will access Reddit’s data API through the partnership, which provides real-time material from Reddit’s site. In addition to giving Google an effective and organized method to access the vast corpus of current material on Reddit, this will enable the corporation to incorporate Reddit content into new product displays.

In an interview with The Verge a year ago, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said regarding Reddit’s API changes and their outcomes, “The API usage involves costs, and data licensing is an emerging operation for us.” He suggested that Reddit may look for similar revenue-generating agreements in the future.

Thanks to the association, Reddit will now have access to Vertex AI. It is Google’s AI-powered solution designed to assist businesses in enhancing their search engine rankings. According to Reddit, the modification has no bearing on the company’s data API restrictions, which forbid developers or businesses from using it for profit without authorization.

According to a Bloomberg story, Reddit and an unidentified AI company reportedly reached a sixty-million-dollar training agreement just last week. Google Search is now boosting the trial of a “forums” filter to facilitate browsing through results from sites featuring human interaction, such as Reddit, Stack Overflow, and Hacker News,

Even with this agreement, Reddit and Google have sometimes disagreed. Reddit has warned Google to stop scanning its website because it was worried that businesses would use its data to teach AI models for free. Reddit is expected to make this adjustment to increase its valuation, which stood at over ten million dollars in 2021. Reddit is also expected to announce its first shared offering in the upcoming weeks.
